PCLETS: Event-Sensor Eye Tracking

PCLETS is a U.S. Army Phase I SBIR effort (Phase I complete). Eye tracking is a foundational input for next-generation operator interfaces — driving displays, augmented-reality overlays, and gaze-aware controls — but doing it precisely in a compact, low-power, near-eye form factor is hard. This effort investigated an eye-tracking architecture built on event-based sensing.

Project Description

PCLETS paired a near-eye event sensor with a fiducial-enabled contact-lens concept, validated against a purpose-built mechanical eyeball testbed. Using an event-based sensor for gaze tracking plays directly to the modality’s strengths — microsecond response and very low power and data load — which are exactly the properties a wearable, always-on near-eye sensor needs.

Capabilities Demonstrated

The work brought together event-based vision, near-eye sensing, and human-machine-interface design, with a repeatable testbed for validating tracking performance — relevant to eye tracking, display control, and gaze-driven operator-state interfaces.
